IsoBoard Nail Up Insulated Ceilings

Heat gain in residential homes is largely through the roof structure. Insulated ceilings retard heat flow into the living areas in summer, and contain generated heat in winter, providing a comfortable living environment.
Note that ventilation, window design and positioning of the building also affect comfort in the dwelling. Consult the TIASA Code for Construction of Insulated Dwellings (www.aaamsa.com).

Residential housing installed as insulated ceiling. Flush look, grooved and bevelled finishes are options.
In retail developments when no insulation is provided, IsoBoard is frequently retro-fitted to achieve comfort and cost saving objectives, and protect the expected shelf life of perishable produce.
Community housing, police stations, clinics and schools projects.

Application Guide
Fit brandering at 600mm, maximum 700mm centres transversely to the trusses, as well as a perimeter brandering all around each room. IsoBoard sheets to be of sufficient length to span brandering transversely without butt jointing.
Trim boards on site allowing for a 5mm gap to wall. Apply 5ml blobs of DAS 2:1 polystyrene adhesive at 200mm intervals along the brandering. Fix initial panel to perimeter brandering with screws and washers at 300mm spacing, such as to be concealed with cornice.
Break out tongue or top of groove at each intersection of board edge and brandering, such as to accept concealed clip into edge of IsoBoard sheet. Screw or pop rivet clip into brandering, and press up to ensure adhesive contact.
Fit subsequent IsoBoard panels using the tongue and groove joint. Trim the final board to complete the installation.
For a flush ceiling effect erect ceiling as above, then fill bevelled joints with DAS 2:1 polystyrene adhesive, sponge flat and clean, allow to dry. Use 100mm spatula to apply PVA/Polyfilla mixture over joint, allow to dry and sand smooth with fine emery paper.
Fit cornice; timber, plaster or polystyrene.
Wipe surface clean and finish with two coats good quality matt acrylic paint. Paint Techniques can result in stunning finishes.
Lamp holders fixed adjacent to Isoboard should be fitted with lamps generating heat not exceeding temperatures of 70°C.
Above this temperature Isoboard will soften and retract from the heat source.
Space fluorescent lamp holders (with fitted ballast) approximately 3mm away from IsoBoard using washers, and fix to supporting brandering or trusses.
Use Energy Saver lamps when installing other lamp fittings in close proximity to IsoBoard.
Heavier light fittings should always be hung from timber fixed above the IsoBoard.
Downlighters:
Lamp fittings to be of swivel type. Holes can be easily cut to accept suitable downlighters.
Alu shield lamps to be used, i.e. MR16(12V) and GU10(220V).
These lamps have an aluminium shield which directs heat downwards.
For 12V installations, position transformers off the board on battens / truss and 200mm away from the lamp fittings.
Allow a minimum of 150mm airspace above the IsoBoard for sufficient ventilation.
Stock-lengths of 8m, 6m and 4.8m are available in thicknesses of 25mm, 30mm and 40 mm and can be supplied cut-to-length by the Regional Distribution Centres. Contact us for a quotation.
Boards can be ordered to a specific length up to 8000mm where the order volume exceeds 50 cubic metres.
Lead times: five days ex-stock; twenty days ex-manufacturing.
Boards should always be ordered with either a 600mm bevelled edge, for panel and flush-look finishes, or with centre-grooved surface for panelling finish.
Concealed clips (with screws) and DAS 2:1 polystyrene adhesive and filler can be ordered from IsoBoard.
Consult your nearest IsoBoard sales office for advice concerning the appropriate thickness of IsoBoard required for your application.
